Las Terrenas is the hottest district for eating, drinking and dancing in the Dominican Republic. With dozens of dining options from boho to boutique to fine-wining-and-dining, there’s something here for everyone - and the nightlife here is just as vibrant. In the high season, bars in Las Terrenas are packed every night of the week.
El Mosquito Art Bar is the hottest bar in town by a landslide. Keep reading to find out why.
The Location
El Mosquito Art Bar is beautifully located right on the beachfront, recognisable by its massive palm-frond hut roof. Sit in the open-air bar and relax in the sun while you soak up the stunning ocean view and watch people stand-up paddleboarding the pristine water at Pueblo de los Pescadores beach. Guests are welcome to walk across the street to the beach, so you can sit and enjoy your cocktail on the sun-warmed sand.
The Vibe
The El Mosquito Art Bar manages to always feel relaxed, which is impressive considering how busy it can get. The ambience is high-end but cosy and intimate - and its this balance of exclusive and welcoming that keeps the punters coming back. Return visitors will tell you a drink at El Mosquito Art Bar is one of the best things to do in Las Terrenas like they’re letting you in on a secret, and the staff will welcome you like a long-lost regular.
With colorful local art adorning the bar walls and fairy-lit trees, the decor feels very beach bar hipster and we love it! Sit back and relax with a cocktail as the gentle ocean breeze sweeps through the bar.
The Music
El Mosquito Art Bar plays different music for different crowds depending on the day of the week and how early/late it is, but you can expect to hear pop, hip hop and the odd bit of reggaeton. Most nights of the week, you’ll find an energetic dancefloor, or at least a lot of nodding heads.
The bar also hosts live music from local acts as well as DJ nights if you like to get down to a bit of house music. Prefer to let your hair down to cheesy classics? Look out for throwback nights dedicated to the great musical decades of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.
The Drinks
All your usual favorites are here in terms of beers and spirits, but the cocktail menu steals the show. Expect to find mojitos, daiquiris, cosmopolitans, sex on the beach, long island iced teas and signature house cocktails of the bar’s own concoction. The frozen mojito is perfect after a day out under the sun.
Prices are slightly more expensive than other bars in the area but this is reflected in the quality of the drinks.
The Verdict
The El Mosquito Art Bar has everything you need for a great night of drinking, relaxing and dancing. You won’t find anywhere in Las Terrenas with better decor, drinks list, staff or music.
Don’t be confused if you see a number of places using the El Mosquito name. The owners of this bar also own the El Mosquito Beach Bar, the El Mosquito Bite, the El Mosquito Boutique Hotel and are soon to open the El Mosquito Rooftop. Las Terrenas is full of places to eat, drink and dance at, but every one of the establishments owned by El Mosquito deserves its own place on your to-do list. These guys know how to run a bar and are taking over Las Terrenas nightlife.
